Since fitting the apexi for a auto jzx100 my gear changes in the upward direction have been total crap
The apexi is good in one respect with the auto and that is that you can change when it shifts
Shifts are total crap though
I have just purchased a JAYCAR DIGITAL PULSE ADJUSTER (Jaycar kit No kc5384 and will require kit kc5386 to change things) and after I build the kit I will insert it as a interrupter in the FORCE MOTOR line
I have measured line pressure at stall with the original ECU and the APEXI and it is around 60 psi lower with the APEXI
What I want to know is what is the wire from the ECU to the FORCE MOTOR called at the ECU end
Tag number would be great
After playing I will post results
Mike at MV AUTOMATICS has been verryy helpfull with this
Any wiring diagrams ECU to AUTO greatly appreciated

I was under the impression that the powerfc could manipulate not only shift points but also shift quality - and in more than one way I thought? Have you investigated these functions?
I think we're all hanging for wiring diagrams - wouldn't life be easier!

If you can show me where you can adjust line pressure with the apexi this would be great
I can"t find it anywhere even with a datalogit

I don't have any first hand experience, but WhiteJZX100 posted this a while back.

What is total crap? i was refering to:

WhiteJZX100: I've been going through the Power FC controller (because, lets face it, we all like to tinker), and there are some interesting things that i've noticed.
* On the 8 channel read out there is the option to monitor air temp and to monitor auto transmission temp. The first may be quite useful for those who have a standard IC/turbo so you can monitor how performance declines once the intercooler heat soaks and air temp increases.
* There are shift up and shift down maps which are customisable for the Auto. I will be playing with these shortly and will let you know how it goes. I expect to suffer extremely poor fuel economy until i get the hang of it
* There are two menu items which i cant remember completely, something along the lines of "lock up" and "flex". I'll have to do some more research as to what they control (lock up torque converter perhaps? flex has me stumped)
* I cant find anywhere to modify the sensitivity of the ECTS system, which pisses me off no end. Turning off traction controls means that i can scare myself quite easily, so being able to make it less sensitive but still function would be nice.
* Gear changes : There is more "flare" when changing from 1st to 2nd. Much more than the stock ECU. However, downchanges are MUCH more crisp and they happen much quicker. Also, at low throttle openings and when the auto fluid is coolish, gear changes can be a little harsh, but not worryingly so. Maybe because i'm picky about the way my car feels, thats why I notice it.

So have you seen such menu items as "flex" or "lock up"?
If swapping the ecu for a powerfc can have such a massive (and negative!) affect on shifts, it naturally means that the ecu has the ability to control them (and i'm sure in a similar way to what you are trying to do with the jaycar kit). I would think that if apexi didn't include the options to manipulate and customise how the transmission shifts, then they're stupid. I doubt this is the case though.

some options on pfc are only available through use of the pc software

Any update on this? I just had my PFC tuned today, and like yours, my shifts are total crap.

haven't these car got a TCM (an ECU for the trans) of their own?
i know with Falcons now, the shift points and 'crispness' is all controlled by the Tran Control Module. this TCM gets it data from the ABS sensors and the electronics on the rear of the dash board and this is how it determines when it will shift gears and how hard the shift will be. Falcon TCM's will actually alter the auto's characteristics depending on how hard the car is being driven at the time. the only way to modify the shift would be to have this TCM replaced or remapped, that's assuming it's actually possible !!!
(caution, personal opinion)
i think the 1jz's auto is a very complicated thing, probably like the new Falcons. perhaps someone who was going ' full house' on their 1jz or 2jz and specifically wanted to keep it auto, they should consider changing it for an old Turbo350 or even Torqueflight. atleast something that uses line pressure and not electronics, would be easier and cheaper to do.
anyway, i guess this post doesn't help any

I am installing my PFC soon, and would like to know what exactly is shit about the shifts?
I have been going through the manual, and it gives you options of UpShift and DownShift control points, Full Lock Up Points and shift "flair" or slip before lockup settings.
So is it when it changes, or how it feels when it changes that you consider the problem?
