Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself on these boards. I have been lurking around for a little while soaking up information for my engine swap project. I purchased a 1JZGTE VVTi out of a JZX110 Verossa. The reason it had to be out of a 110 was ease of wiring - the 110 and the JCE10 (IS300) are very similar. Unfortunately it is OBDII and Drive by Wire as well (more on the pain later)
The motor fits in perfect, almost like it was supposed to be in there. engine mounts are the same as well. I mated a R154 5speed from a soarer as this one the closest fit i could find. the ideal trans is the chaser 5spd, but those are freakin' rare and expensive. the chaser 5spd has a little extension off the tail that makes it fit perfect in my shifter hole. the soarer requires a little bit of cutting of the shifter hole, but nothing bad.
after getting everything mechanically complete, i attempted to run the engine on the stock IS300 ecu with a piggyback. BIG MISTAKE! the IS300 ECU won't respond to any closed loop tuning. regardless of how much i changed fuel trims or O2 signals, the IS300 ECU would take over and fight back. also the drive by wire idling system is terrible. i guess the VE from the IS300 and the 110 different enough that the idle program wont work. the motor stalls in free rev or a lot during deceleration. so in order to keep all my luxuries from the IS300 and have full tuning capabilities, a full standalone is required!
anyhow, here's some pics. enjoy!

empty engine bay - we dropped the motor from the bottom instead of pulling it from the top. worked out pretty nice that way.

Engine Bay cleaned and prepped

Motor ready to have the car dropped on top

Shots of motor before putting in

Photo of Surge Tank in Drivers side under trunk. where some people put their dual exhaust can. perfect fit .

Master Welder and Formula D Driver Ernie Fixmer testing out the surge tank LOL

Bosch 044 Fuel pump > Supra TT Fuel Pump > Walbro Fuel pump. the Bosch is about the same size around as the NOS can next to it.

ACT HD PP and 6puck Spung Disc and cutom 11.5lb Flywheel

More pretty photos of the motor =)

our very own DanielM working on my car

Can't wait to put this baby on the motor when we're all done!!! =)

couple of things. firstly IS300 is a JZE10. Weren't any Toyota JC series engines unfortunately
IS300 ECU is not going to power it for a start because its for a N/A 2JZ-GE. Totally different signals for Airflow/MAP for starters and considering ones a N/A engine and the others Turbo, AFR settings will be all over the joint. You should be able to use the JZX110 ECU though with some minor tweaks for the E10 Dash/Gauge Cluster to get it working.
what luxuries from the IS300 do you want to keep that require using the JZE10 ECU? Remember the ECU controls only engine info, with dash plug sendouts (which you just alter the pinouts to suit). Not sure about the JZX110 but in the JZX90, ABS and TRC and the luxuries (if thats what you can call TRC
) are controlled on two separate external ECU's. I think a great deal of your problems associated with the JZE10 ECU also boil down to lack of VVTI Control. This will play a significant part..
That said with all that gear you're running on the 1J, why wouldn't you run a standalone! You'd be nuts not to!
BTW if you need help with this, jump on Toymods and look for a user in Sydney called 'whatthe?' He's currently got a 293rwkw 1JZ VVTi IS200 that is.. Well, Mean

actually the IS300 chassis code is JCE10... although the motor is a 2JZGE toyota didn't stick with the typical naming methodology... don't ask me why.
turbo or not, in vacuum the cars are similar and technically i should be able to get it to idle, and the IS300 ECU actually runs rich so in boost up to 5V in the MAF should be fine. either way its a moot point as i'm going standalone. (for reference, the car is great in open loop with the FIC, it sucks in closed loop)
the IS300 ECU handles the electronic gauge cluster which cannot be outputted by a standalone computer. the AEM EMS controls VVTi and has built in traction control and i will probably be getting rid of Drive by Wire so then my management issues should be all done with.

well in the meantime waiting for the EMS we've gotten the TRD bushing set installed and boxed in the lower arms. here's some pics of the arms to keep you occupied for the next week or so
