Installed a Clarion DVD player in my chaser on Friday went in pretty smoothly

Had factory TV/NAV unit with amplifier, used the factory amp + speakers and it sounds pretty good for a stock system.

To clarify what you need to do to get it all to work properly I'll go over the wiring once again.

15 pin connector is all you need to use.
Posted Image

  • Amp power +
  • Illumination +
  • ACC +
  • B+
  • MUTE
  • Front Left +
  • Front Right +
  • Antennae
  • GND -
  • Unused
  • GND - common speaker earth
  • Fade
  • Beep
  • Rear Left +
  • Rear Right +

Of these pins you will need to use 1,2,3,4,6,7,11,14,15

Most after market headunits I've fitted have the same wiring colours, the following is for Clarion units and should cross reference with other brands.

  • Amp power to Blue/White amplifier turn-on cord
  • Illumination + to Orange/White Illumination
  • ACC + to Red +12v accessory
  • B+ to Yellow +12v main power
  • unused
  • Front Left + to RCA centre
  • Front Right + RCA centre
  • unused
  • unused
  • unused
  • GND - common speaker earth to all RCA outer
  • unused
  • unused
  • Rear Left + to RCA centre
  • Rear Right + to RCA centre

For the speaker wiring you will need 4 RCA leads to cut up or 4 RCA connectors.

Connect the wiring to the RCA plugs as shown
Attachment XLR_2xRCA.jpg

Black being earth, you need to join the 4 earths together and to pin 10 GND (mine was Brown) and the remaining red/centre wires to the 4 speaker wires on the factory harness
6. = Green
7. = Red
11. =brown
14. = White
15. = Blue
Attachment RCA.jpg

Once the wiring is completed and insulated sufficiently all thats left is to fit your new headunit in the dash, refit the facia and enjoy your new sound.

this is very helpful thanks. but what about the sub wire???

Factory sub is controlled by the amp which decodes the sub signal from the speaker inputs so no need for input from sub out on the headunit

Just in case anybody wants to preserve the factory 15-pin loom for factory amp, a Metra 70-8112 adapter can be bought off eBay. It contains 4x RCA connectors so you don't have to fiddle around with crimping RCA connectors.

I have been reason this trying to make sense of how to install my unit. I have a double din kenwood DVD unit and want to fit this instead of the factory satnav/tv/cd/tape/radio unit. If I buy the above adapter will this work for me-eg save cutting wires and soldering plugs together-and retain the factory amp to the speakers? And also I intend on running an aftermarket sub and amp to the boot too- can I do this independently from the headinit and this isn't going to be a problem while using the factory amp and speakers.,and I presume factory sub? The factory speakers have good sound and I see no reason to replace them and the factory amp unless I have to, but worried if I bypass the lot and run new wires to everythig il give the speakers a bit of a hiding by not using the factory amp... I know this is kind of complex, but
Hoping someone can set me straight- pulled out the factory one and got a bit of a surprise when I saw all the wires and different plugs-definately not the same as a skyline instal..cheers

aftermarket audio systems work independantly to your headunit. it'll work as long as your headunit has a subwoofer pre-out.

Im using a pioneer head unit, stock amp, JL audio front splits (stock wiring) and an Alipne amp and kenwood 12" in the boot (as well as the factory sub)

My headunit has only 2 sets of pre outs (a front and a rear or sub).

Since i cant have a dedicated front, rear and sub i had to wire the rear speakers in with the fronts. Then naturally the sub has its own RCAs.

Wire colours are pretty generic between head units so you shouldnt have much trouble there.

I dont think it will be a problem bypassing the factory amp, or running both the factory sub and an aftermarket one.

One problem i have found is despite the fact i have earthed everything properly, and put rubber hose over each and every soldiered connection i still get a faint whine though the stereo. Im thinking perhaps the best way to fix this (without ditching everything and running a new amp and wires etc) would be to run the RCA cable for the front/rears right to the amp insted of only having 100mm of rca wire before soldiering to the factory loom.

hope that helps.

Cuts - Have you tried running your own earths yet instead of any factory ones?

If so, disconnect the aerial and see if the whine is still there. A lot of metalica window tint can play havoc with head unit noise

I wasn't sure of the best way of Doing my install, so I spoke to chris from audio express about it and also sent him a link to this topic and he said he has the thing that will solve my problem. He said he can supply an interface Which will run the factory amp and sub and also will not have any feedback noise. He said he has installed a couple on jzx100s already. I'm yet to do this, but will post up more details once I'm done. Here's a link to audio express site where he can sell an interface. I haven't personally dealt with chris yet and purchased the interface but he is a member of the skylines Australia forum and has been highly recomended by members, and has been helpful. Hope this can help others also.
