Some of you may know me from other forums (I know this because you've emailed me about this :( ). I have a small one-man and part-time business called Mearcat Auto Accessories and started making custom gauge pods for japanese imports and other cars about 18 months ago. After a couple of people recently contacted me in regards to making some gauge pods for the JZX90 & JZX100 Chaser, I am expressing my interest in getting some prototypes done.

Check out my website www.mearcat.com.au (Pods section) for examples of other design gauge pods I have designed/prototyped - for the Supra, Skyline, 180X, Stagea, WRX, Forester etc. Most of my designs are mounted at the base/side of the a-pillar and offer a more legal alternative to the a-pillar pods.

I would like to make some gauge pods for the Chasers and am looking for someone (in PERTH, NOR) to loan me their car for a whole weekend so a prototype can be made. In the last 18 months, I have loaned over 30 cars from various private owners & businesses and everyone has always been happy in regards to the secure storage or treatment or the cars. I can provide contact details of some of these people as a reference if required.

Once a prototype is made, it may take 3-4 months for the design to be made available to everyone as I currently have 6 other designs (not for the Chaser) slated for production first and there are large startup costs which I don't always have the capital for use straight away. However, if there are 10-12 people who are prepared to pay a 50% deposit, I can make these designs a top priority and get them fabricated first and have them ready within approx 5-6 weeks. Single pods will be $79ea

So who is interested in a Chaser gauge pod and who can loan me a car? For allowing me to use a car, the individual will receive a free single gauge pod (retails for $79ea) when they are fabricated and available for sale - either that or $79 credit towards another Mearcat product.

I discovered mearcat on skylines australia by reputation alone: he came highly recommended by a number of members. I've got both the a-pillar and centre dual guage clock replacement pods for my Stagea (have only installed the a-pillar so far), and am more than impressed with the quality and fit: much better looking than a guage cup, and easy to wire, because it sits just above the front coner air vent on top of the dash. I want an an a-pillar pod for my Chaser as well, which is why I suggested he come here: unfortunately I'm on the East coast, so can't provide a vehicle (not that it's even complied yet), but if anyone is willing to, his product is first rate.

I am happy to leave a 50% deposit,

Micah

If it's like the R33/R34 double pod I'll get one, they 'fit in' the best IMO, ie: look most factory. I prefer them to the A pillar ones too, very cool.

I could also loan you my car (JZX100) for a weekend, how would I be compensated? Next w/e (19&20th) I need to have my car, pretty much any other weekend is fine. I'm NoR too.

Seen you on SAU, hadn't seen the pods before though, I usually just lurk aorund the WA section (I used to have a turbo R31).

cheers
Stu

I haven't had a chance to have good look at the interior of the Chasers yet so I'm not sure how a single or double would fit on the dash as yet, but will PM you and discuss details.

I also forgot to mention in the orginal post that for allowing me to use a car, the person gets a free single gauge pod (retails for $79ea) when they are fabricated and available for sale - either that or $79 credit towards another gauge pod.

StuiE and I have come to an agreement that I will have access to his car in couple of weeks time :P . I should have some photos of the prototypes by mid-Feb.

Can we expect the double pod price to be around the same as the Skyline?

Yes - all single & double pods (mounted at side of a-pillar) are the same price across all models - this includes the Chaser pods once they're released.
