Hey guys, i think the auto shifters and surrounds in jzx90's are incredibly ugly and i've been wondering for a while if the jzx100 shifter and surround would fit. I found the following link on ALSC. It's for putting a celsior shifter into a soarer but it could, potentially be similar for jzx's? Here it is (it's in japanese):
http://www.geocities...05/page002.html
I translated the pages with IE as i went through them but i still struggled to follow it. I've also never pulled the shifter in my car apart so the pictures weren't that big a help. So, for anyone who can read japanese, or anyone who has some experience with pulling the shifter apart, how does this look? Lots of hard work?

There is a page somewhere that outlines the JZX100 shifter into the JZX90. If I track it down again I will post it.
Heres one page that seems to compare 90 and 100 auto shift: http://www.s1.inets....n/100/gate1.htm
100 gate into an 81: http://www.geocities...assis/gate.html
100 gate for sale:
Still looking for the one I saw ages ago.
Another 100 gate in a 90: http://homepage3.nif...mainmenu16.html
Aha! This is not the one I was looking for but I think it is even better.
It seems to outline the swap in quite a bit of detail: http://x90tuneprojec...x90diy/gate.htm
I would also like to do this swap as the 100 gate and shifter look so much better.

Nice work, thanks ghost
So it doesn't look too hard? I gather that you need to do a bit of cutting of the plastic around the shifter mechanism but is that the only real modification needed to fit it?
That jzx100 shifter for sale on yahoo wasn't very expensive either so all up this mod might be quite feasible.

there might be a problem here, I'm installing 1JZ from JZX100 into 260z , Using the auto to get it engineered,( I have all the 154 conversion bits which were going in later, but have found I sort of like the smoothness of the auto) shifter functioning perfect in all gears except 4, don't have it as yet,Electronic wizzkid (sideshow)doing wiring hook-up has worked out that the shifter "talks" to the ECU via 1 wire, which seems to indicate that 4th is activated by main ECU only. (JZX100 has completely different ECU than JZX90) I think transmission has extra electrical connections as well, which provide signals to ECU, doing further tests in the next week, will update outcome.
My version of windows won't translate the text on the conversion link, don't know if anything in there about this.

thats what i used to translate that webpage, does a decent job of it too. try that, it may not do the last paragraph because there is too many characters to read, but just highlight that and open another google translater window and paste it in and you'll have the whole page translated.
Hopefully it can be done fairly easy, russ jz has got me worried now...

All working, the purple wire is the 3rd 4th switch to JZX100 ECU

the only advice i can offer is that 90 and 100 gear boxes are the same so if someone can figure out how to fit it aesthetically and electronically, bring it on

Apart from the asthetics, why would you want to swap a straight line shift for an all over the place gate one??

i think it looks better than the standard JZX90 one and i think a lot of people feel the same, that the only reason i can think of...
