Erm so I've been thinking about going aftermarket fuel control and was wondering about the Pros and Cons of getting a Power FC or an E-manage? There's a few people running Power FCs but what about the E-manage, I wouldn't be attempting to tune it myself so that is another consideration inregards to difficulty for the shop interface with it.

All input would be much appreciated

~ Cheers! :)

heyman. i was looking for this stuff for my skyline about a year ago. All the advice i got was to get the PFC. apparently easier to tune, therefore less costs for the tuner. Also, i think someone said that the pfc is a stand alone system, simply replaces the stock one, whereas the E-manage piggy backs on the factory unit.

honestly i dont know the perfomance difference, and i guess it'l be about the same if theyre both tuned to their potential.. guess it comesdown to the green... or yellow, or whatever our notes are...

Some tuners will swear by one and turn their nose at the other, but when it comes down to it as long as its tuned by someone that knows their stuff, you'll be fine. I wonder if there's any tuners that do both -perhaps they're the ones to ask!

More people tend to go with the powerfc probably because more people know how to tune them and of course theres the hand controller which allows you to see sensor outputs.

Piggy-back computers are fine too and sometimes a lot cheaper.....they also have the benefit of retaining your ecu. Some people see this as a negative but the standard ecu is generally greatly underestimated (on modern cars) and comes with many safety functions missing on the powerfc.

This is obviously a question faced by auto jzx90 owners, but if the e-manage has neat features like the jzx100 auto powerfc does, i'd definately consider it.

I've used emanages on a couple of 1J's now, they work fine, but you're limited to the stock revlimiter and the stock ECU's knock control. eg, put in too much timing advance with the emanage, knock sensor is very sensetive and pulls out ALL the factory ECU's timing advance (emange introduces additional advance, or can retard), when all the factory ECU's timing is pulled out you end up with less than stock power. This is where your tuner needs to know what they're doing and exactly how the 1J knock control works. It's best to tune with a scantool attached so you can monitor the factory ignition advance and knock levels while tuning the emanage via the very easy to use laptop interface. One good thing about the knock control staying in place is it protects the motor, much harder to destroy an engine with just an emanage as the stock ECU failsafe's are still in place and functional.

The powerfc is able to raise the revlimit and you have full control over the fuel and ignition. What it lacks is knock control, so it's especially important your tuner knows what they're doing. A poor tune on a powerfc can easily destroy your motor as the factory ECU's safety features are no longer in place. The powerfc only has knock warning functionality, but this is also user definable, so you have to put the life of your engine in the tuner's hands and trust they know what knock level readings are acceptable on the 1J.

I consider the pfc harder to tune than the emanage. The datalogit interface isn't as clean as the greddy support tool, anyone tuning from the pfc hand controller only shouldn't be tuning the car at all. You need a laptop interface on the pfc to gain access to the extra tuning features not accessible with the hand controller.

I'd find local tuners for both systems and pick their brains. They wont know about jzxs, but soarers they might!

On the 100s, does the VVTi system become an issue anywhere?

That's some excellent info there :)

I talked to a guy who had a jzx90 tourer v (with FMIC and exhaust) with an e-manage and apparently the tuner couldn't get the timing advanced without it reverting back to conservative settings. This could be what you mentioned about the ultra-sensitive 1JZ knock sensor?

CD1J- the advice i've always heard people that i trust give is that you pick your tuner and then use the engine management they are familiar and comfortable with.

Hey there I'm running a e-manage Blue in my 100 and no troublees at all. only things I've done which you've already been told about is plug in a few extra sensors and the I'm fitting a M.S.S as we speak to control the 100 shot of nos going in. The e-manage are actually an excellent little unit and great value for money. Only problem I found is not enough people have tinkered with them and aren't really willing to.
