Hey guys/girls

Don't consider doing a pod filter and get hassled by the cops

Just do this

What I had was a stock jzx100 airbox

They have tiny intake holes and its ghey

So I made the intake holes bigger MUCH bigger

Start by figuring out how much your going to cut out

1.

Draw and mark on the front how much you want to cut out

2.

Second there is a piece of steel inside that you have to get out before you can use the jigsaw

Pic

Posted Image

Remove that piece

You remove it by getting a chisel in behind it and cutting the pieces that hold it on

Easy

3.

Now hopefully you have marked it out and thought about it, not gone OK that would be good and proceed to cut off a needed mount or spring that holds the filter in....

Posted Image

Posted Image

That is how much I cut out

4.

Now clean up the edges you jigsawed with a piece of sand paper and blow and WASH/Wipe the box out to get the stuff out that the jigsaw made

5.

Now you have a big area on top and your thinking fark me now hot air is gonna get into the intake

So start by ripping out the piece of rubber around your headlight if its there, that will let air around the headlight into the airbox

Next your going to want to make a cover

This is the tricky bit depending on what you have/your skills

Draw out on cardboard the shape you want to make to block hot air

Posted Image

I did this

6.

Now cut that out onto something like perspex or timber or like me - checkerplate

Posted Image

I had to cut out extra as in that pic to get the bonnet to close

Make sure you don't leave sharp edges or points, make it look nice

7.

Drill some hole to fit it

8.

Paint it if you so desire and then fit it

9.

If you so desire make up another guard to go between airbox and radiator, I am not going to worry for the moment

10.

Check out how cool your job is and live life to its fullest knowing you made yourself a big fucking intake for your fulleh sic

Add any comments or idea If you wish

Cheers

now its going to suck hot air from the sides , from the engine bay . at least before , the only air it could get was either from the bonnet duct vent or the lower wheel arch/front bumper vent.

nothing wrong with pod filters , cops only pick on ya when they are flapping about with no support.
easy to box em up away from engine bay heat ..

but nice idea u should do a before and after dyno comparison

Agreed with mxracer, your just gonna suck more hot air in.

Nothing illegal with a pod filter in most states as long as they are secured.

lol whats that achieve? more air from the headlight , the intake holes to it together are larger than the outlet too
, i have 311kw with std airbox and k&n panel , just added a cai fom front bumper to the under headlight intake
but also have a 4 inch outlet off the box to turbo

i also had it dyno'd with lid open/close with/without panel filter and less than 2kw difference between runs

Its not finished yet

I cant be bothered to seal it yet but it leaves room for improvement

Pods open to air is defectable and its just another non standard thing for them to pick on

Im going to be completely sealing and make a cai to come under headlight

Cheers for the input though

Also the next part when I go a larger AFM I want to cut out the inner side holes to make the output from airbox larger to suit the AFM

One thing both me and my mate do notice is the amount of power extra with a lower ambient temperature, so once this is done it should see a few extra kw, I mean you cant expect to gain too much from an intake alone

Plan is suck air in beside the airbox where fender is and under headlight, though I dont want water getting sucked in so will be thinking about it

Cheers

Travis

Look at the headlight intake (which points straight to the inside of an airbox right at a filter element) I have on the 205, water is never an issue.

The z30 Soarer kids do this, they called them a BFI (big fucking intake) there is a few threads on Soarer Central about it, but they have shitter airbox designs then us with no OTR (over the radiator) intakes.

I did a thread a while ago on the surface area comparison between pod filters and our stock panel filters if you are interested in such matters.

Proof that the design is good really (albeit modified).

One thing I want to try is cutting out the inside section (the bit that looks like a square with the corner cut) from as far as I can see that bit is a kind of resonator box, cutting it out with open up that choke area a bit where its a kind of oval and get rid of the resonator too.

Same as Supra ;)

BTW, TRD spec 100s have an additional cold air scoop just in front of the OEM SMIC under the headlight feeding air into the air box. Or is that a common feature with non TRD spec Chasers too? I'm asking coz I never bothered to check on non TRDs.
