hi guys

got a wee problem , if any of you guys can throw some ideas down , fire away ...

engine 1JZGTE
car JZX90 chaser

ok out tuning on the japanese highways as you do with the new Gizzmo boost controller
having a slight race with a bike at 180... ( now need a SLD )
then boost dropped off to 0 without warning
not long after ,
power is so flat will not rev out what so ever ( max 3,000 - 4,000 rpm )
power is so flat / slow a kei car can take me to school

i thought maybe the boost controller caused it , disconnected her
problem was still there

turbo was blowing a little smoke after hi rpms and backing off ( parked up )
so we went to up-garage , checking for used turbos
after that we headed off and she was boosting ok .... WTF ( maybe cooling down helped )

so i dropped my mate off and headed home playing with this lovely power
then F## me dead , it happened again
so i quietly nursed her to a area away from houses to give her some free reving experience
free reving parked up , it was struggling to rev out to 4,000 - 5,000

i figured that doing this ,
maybe there was a air leak in the piping somewhere , after checking everything i started spraying brake clean on all joints and hoses
no leak that i could find

i proceeded to disconnect the battery to reset everything , no change
pulled the superspark coils out and popped the factory ones in , no change

this morning i did a fault test with the engine check light , no change

its almost like the engine has a electrical fault or ECU is in limp mode or something

it has a new set of denso plugs
new fuel filter with fuel pump

been on line today searching for clues as to why this could be happening

come up with these idea's to check

ECU Fault ( got a AT ecu i can throw in to check )
Oxy Sensor fault
Map Sensor
TPS Sensor
Igniter pack failure
crank angle Sensor

if any of you guys can shed some light on what to do
or offer some advice on what else i should be looking for
please fire away !

Have you got an Aftermarket ECU or Boostcut defender?
Which Gizzmo model do you have?

is it missfiring or just hitting limiter?

Video?

Didnt knock off a vacuum line?

Have a boost gauge? may have hit boost cut

Take it to a mechanic and get them to read the ecu as its running

Could be a number of things mate

I was going to say it sounds a bit like an AT trans going into limp mode or something... *dunno*

what can cause that?

come to think of it mine screwed around the other week. i planted it in the wet and it went to limiter ish but it just shook the car until i let off accelerator

You my friend have thrown your rear exhaust wheel. Mine did the exact same thing when it let go. That's why you won't make and boost

hi guys

1. running a standard ECU
2. gizzmo controller is MS-2 , ( this has been disconnected while i find the problem )
3. chaser is a genuine v tourer 5 speed ( no limp mode from being a 5 speed )
4. engine will not boost what so ever
5. engine will struggle drive , lucky to break 50kms ( no power )
6. parked up in neutral , it will struggle to rev past 5,000
7. there is no missfire , just really flat no power,
8. no i cannot get it to redline, impossible
9. sorry its not boost cut , cant boost let alone rev to make boost
10. all vacuum lines and intercooler piping are good
11. coil packs are working fine as well as injectors

ok i did a bit of trouble shooting today,
changed the ecu to find this made no difference
completely disconnected the boost controller , still no change

i played with the engine check light to see if we can get some codes happening
finally made some progress , we are getting error 13 now
which points to crank angle sensor or ECU
the ecu appears to be ok ,
did a ohms test on the sensor got a reading of 905 ,
from the info on the net looks like that could be the problem
i was geting the same error codes coming up on both ECU's

since i do not have a used crank angle sensor to try
we just ordered a new one from toyota ,
that will be here on thursday JPY5,100 /NZD$86
fingers crossed that is the problem

if you guys have any other suggestions i am all ears

hey if the exhaust wheel flys off, could you still rev your engine to redline parked up in neutral or when you were driving ?
what kinda of things were happening to your engine when this happened ? other than no boost
funny thing is, this was the first thing we thought had happened too
so we went to up-garage looking for a new turbo , after parking up for good 40 mins at up-garage, took her for another drive and she started boosting again ,
then 30 mins later the boost died completely , we were like WTF is going on ...
even if the turbos were on there way out you should be able to rev the engine parked up in neutral

you checked the coilpacks for hairline cracks right? They'll arc out to the head under load if they're cracked, which will also stop it getting to redline.

I never tried to free rev it but I was lucky to get to 60 kmh down hill lol and it took ages to get to that speed. Make sure your cat hasn't melted and blocked your exhaust
