ok got bored so i thought id post this lil puppy up..

i have always wanted to do an old 1 tonner up. full rebuild etc etc. now that i have some room i thought wtf may aswell start
missus is well impressed at my already late nights and the place looking like a "fkn truckies yard" haha

the plan is to do a hx prem nose on but i have started really falling for hq gts nose and since my sill is for std front its the way im goin now
i bought a hj rolling chassis with a hq cab on it for parts/ mock up...
then went to esperance to pick up another free full tonner without engine as it had a full set of matching tags to the chassis.- epic journey 20hours round trip non stop...

i have submitted an application with dpi with the intentions for this to be fully engineered and road registed... just waiting for the principle approval and ready to jump thru hoops

so now i have 2 1jzgte engines and 2 tonners talk about stock piles

the plan
hz 1 cab chassis
1 jzgte with factory a340e auto engine conversion
single turbo upgrade ~gt37/gt40, ext gate
full smoothed chassis
hq gts nose
flattened rear cab
tubbed flat tray lined with jarrah.
paint plan atm is pearl white cab/tray/engine bay.
everything chassis/engine will be ceramic coated/painted black.
custom dash, stack dash/defi's etc
bride cuga pair seats
no carpet etc... full painted inside
weld rims
full hidden wiring/new brake lines
cage- this will be added once rego'd
a nice simple build that will take the next 2-3 years.

so far i have just fabricated the engine mounts using factory mounts and relocating the factory chassis mounting locations. now just need to get on a hoist and make the gearbox x member.

then its hq cab off and then full strip down of the chassis for smoothing/soda blast/paint/new bushes. cab and panel work will be done when possible. the cab needs new floor pans so a big job ahead

ok a few minor things have changed
while trolling gumtree i found a hz tonner shell and chassis that included the tags - all have been soda blasted and the cab has been 80% repaired-
all neew tunnel, floors,sills,cowls etc and had been stored indoors winner...
also came with rarespares repo hx/z prem nose cone... giggidy...


so i had my new chassis and got some time off so i got it (old chassis) on the hoist and made a very neat (imo) gbox x member... had a 110kg ginger jump on it and no flex... should be good as pics show there is a sh!t load of room and it fits better than i expected...






i took engine out and slotted it and the new x member into the new chassis and lined her up Puuurrrrfectly... crank dead center and sitting lower than 350/308/202/5l efi etc.... nice low mass... very happy..




while it was on the hoise i started cleaning all the slag and shit welds thanks to the holden works back in the 70's haha...
made up some fuel tank mounts and ordered a tank so wait till im home next before i get the rest of the chassis smoothed and tank/mount in...

also dropped the old hz cab in the tip as sick of it laying around looking shit ... sad to push it off the trailer...

Nice one Ovaxited! My bro and I are building a HZ Kingswood ute with an RB25 at the moment - a bit further along than yours but all good fun

Nah man, no build thread.. Just a backyard build. Would be a decade long thread though haha. Yeah I tried to convince him to go 2j but a wrecked skyline popped up at the time so thats what ended up in there haha.. May even go 25/30. Will have rego, wont be too hard in nsw

well i have been trying to do little bit each time im home but not too much done
i have been looking at others x members and i "should" be ok going by other examples. its aint going to be too hard to change though so will look into it when it comes closer to completion. some people have mentioned about lack of room for exh but im not having it on its ring and also the angle of the tailshaft. but might have to drop engine a couple of mm

while at work i have managed to use my credit card and ebay skills

cheapest is from usa at half price to anywhere in aus... 1/2" / -8 fuel supply/return should be big enough...
also found i have a good contact at rocket


a 12 gallon 45L 3mm aluminium fuel tank, foam filled etc etc. -8 fittings

have just sent off order for my fittings for the line and bulkhead adapters for the fuel lines,
hunting for a surge tank i like and need to order my 044 pump.

i will most prob just run one 044 bosch for the time being and if i need to "upgrade" later its not a big problem. but with only 500ish and -8 lines it should have more than enough fuel.

still need to decide on lift pump but will do once i get tank in and decide on what i want.


This is my little surprise. bought with my chassis, young guy started and has spent some serious hours in repairs. still more to go but thats later. its got new tunnel, floors, sills, cowel panels etc. only section not happy with is where sill meets behind the door so prob need to unstitch and re do..
