I hope this is the right spot to ask this question.
The window switch I have for my chaser lets the window go down but wont make it go up again. I tried a mates one and his switch made it go up and down fine, but as soon as it got up it would go down agai by itself. I hadto hold the switch in to make it stay up. This switch ahd no problems in my mates car. What I want to know is if this is a switch problem or a motor problem or a wiring problem in the harness, or switch and mtor... if anyone can help itd be appreciated. Cheers!

Because it came down by itself after going all the way up I reckon it's a sensor of some kind that's the problem. I think it's part of a safety feature so that you can't actually trap anything in the window, if it senses pressure on it, it comes down automatically. So maybe there's something jamming the tracks or winding mechanism making it hard to go up so the window thinks there's something jammed in there and either doesn't want to go up or comes down by itself.
That would be my theory anyway
Especially since your switch works in another car, if I read it correctly.

yeah that makes sense, my 34 does the same thing sometimes with the window goig down a bit by itself too. Yeah i might reword that a bit. my switch is oly good for putting the window down- thats all, my mates switch works fine in his and doesnt have the issue of going up and down once it is up, but when i put it in mine it works up and down but does the wierd bit where it goes down by itself.
im asuming my switch i a dud so it wont put the window up- then its something else causin it to go down a couple inches when its up---like you said a sensor perhaps.........If anyone has a switch for sale pm me, or if anyone else can shed any light on it muchly appreciated...Cheers

There's been a thread with many people having the same problem. I noticed that taking the switch apart and giving the contact patches a clean helped, but it's recently gone back to its old ways.
There hasn't been a solution as far as I know
Let us all know how you solve it.

Search for the older threads mate, heaps of advice there.
Personally I removed my switch panel and hit it with a massive dose of WD40 and it hasn't played up since.

mine has had issues too.
If i press the auto down on the drivers side, sometimes i cant get it to go back up, despite occasional careful application of force using a fist
.
and the spring return on the passenger control on the drivers side controls has broken.
At the moment i can get away with just manually returning the passenger side to the middle and if i dont press the auto down it goes up every time.

Sounds much the same as what mine is doing. Had a look in another thread any nothing seemed tO help so far- might try the wd40. Getting another switch priced up through Toyota- hoping you can still get them new from japan- had no luck finding a second hand one anywhere yet. It's a bit strange- when i press the drivers down-it goes click inside the door-asuming it's the motor- and the window goes down. When I press up-it goes click in the door again- and doesn't budge until the 600th atempt. Tried a mates switch works up and down no worries in his car and mine- but mine --as son as it's up it automatically goes down about an inch or two then stops- u sorta gotta hold it in to make it stay up properly--/thing is in my mates car it didn't do any of that-just the normal function--/why would his switch work fine in his car but when u put it in mine fix my problem but create another---I don't get it.. All I can think is back to when I had a r32- window stopped working so went to wreckers for another-new one didn't fix problem so I replaced another bit-- there was a black box midway between the switch and window motor and that gave up-not sure what the part is called- but I wonder if thejzx has something similar?I pulled the door card off and played around and found a small box Inside the door(this is what was going click when I pressed the switch) it's inside the door so I can't see it-only feel it-might have to try pull it out- maybe part of the window motor? Perhaps like the 32 this is part of the problem? Also my 34 does the same... Switch works fine--occasionally when u press auto up -goes up then goes down a couple inches so u manually put it up again. Confusing me.. If I can Source a new switch from Toyota il post price if others are keen.

Yep, interested in a new part, especially if I know it's the correct one!
My window does the same, goes down , but won't go up again, sometimes it starts to go up and then goes down by itself again.
An electronics friend indicated that the sometimes the contacts get worn and 'arc' or similar rather than a problem with the window's motor. However this box in between sounds interesting.
Either way, I really don't know what the problem is either, except that it's really annoying and I want it fixed...

have you recently disconnected the power window switch ?
if you have, the toyota power window swiches looses its memory, you have to reprogram it, this explains why the window "drops" after you bring it back up.
the way you reprogrm it is to disconnect the switch for a few seconds, re connect the switch & hold the switch down until the window goes completely down then hold the switch up until it goes compelety up, then repeat step 1. (do the opposite if your window is down from the beginning)
This should reprogram the window switch.
But if the switch is faulty then get a new switch
